Christian Education

THE REASON FOR CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
We believe the Holy Scriptures are the Word of God. That is, they contain the revelation of God. God inspired their human authors and God still speaks to us through them. We understand their meaning through the aid of the Holy Spirit who guides the Church in their true interpretation. While not accepting the Scriptures as our sole authority or guide, we do believe they provide the Church with the primary criteria for its teaching and the chief source of guidance, in terms of principles and norms for its life. These Scriptures, however, were intended to be interpreted and reinterpreted over and over again in the light of contemporary knowledge and experience within a believing and worshiping community open to the leading of God's Spirit into new truth.
THE PROGRAM
Our Christian Education instructors include laity and clergy volunteers who bring their gift of ministry to our young people. They are committed to assisting children, from preschool through high school, in the process of true Christian formation.
Children 3 years old through 6th grade meet with their respective age groups on Sundays a few minutes before the start of the 9:00am service on the second floor of the Bishop Wilson Building and will spend approximately half an hour reviewing a lesson and learning songs or crafts. The children then join their parents in church at the Exchange of the Peace for the remainder of the liturgy.
High School students meet after the Sunday 9:00am service in the Senior High Room on the first floor of the Bishop Wilson Building to discuss the liturgy and relevant issues facing contemporary young Christians. Middle school students meet in the Memorial Lounge at 6:00pm Sunday evenings for supper and a class on Confirmation. This class will also be open to others not in middle school who wish to prepare for Confirmation.
